I may not be David Letterman, but here’s Kevin’s Top 5 List for keeping your job search on the front burner during the holidays.
5. Your competition is preoccupied.
While other job seekers are sipp’n nog and rubb’n elbows with elves, you are going to be moving forward, working your plan, and be way ahead of everyone else come January 1st!
4. Many companies are ramping up for January 1st.
A lot of companies have finalized or are in the process of finalizing their new year budget. That means they are ready to hire that new team member and start the new year with a bang!
3. Seasonal work is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door.
It may not be the job of your dreams, but it could be a way for you to be noticed at a company that you are targeting. Some companies use the holidays as a kind of a “working inteview” and retain best workers beyond the season and offer them permanent positions. You just never know!
2. ‘Tis the season to be jolly!
Everyone is a little more relaxed and hiring managers may be more receptive to what you have to say and have to offer to their company. Schedules aren’t quite so overbooked so you stand a chance to actually talk to the decision makers.
AND the Number 1 reason for keeping your job search on the front burner is:
Networking! Networking! Networking!
Go ahead and go to that holiday mixer and have a good time! Slip a few business cards in your pocket or purse and if the right opportunity presents itself, you’ll be ready!
